I don't quite remember who proclaimed that 2010 was going to be the year of the Burrito in the UK, who ever said it, is not far off the mark.  Coming from the states where there is a burrito shack on every corner of Main Street USA I went into burrito withdrawal when I moved to the UK eleven years ago.  In the last few years London has seen a few burrito outposts popping up, some of them are rolling out great burritos and some of them.... Well not so.

My current favourite burrito joint is Tortilla. They have 4 locations in London serving up burritos that are filling, flavourful and excellent value.  I had the most disgusting burrito in my life from the Soho branch MexiCali. The meat was over salted, guacamole was slimy and the beans under cooked. Never again!  Over in Clerkenwell, Daddy Donkey has garnered a cult following, but I've yet get my mouth around their burrito.

Burritos are big business in the US.  Probably the god of the burrito chains is Chipotle.  They started out in my home state of Colorado, then spread like wild fire across the USA with millions of followers that worshiped in their house of burritos.

If you follow me on twitter you could probably tell from my tourettesque rants about Lost that I'm slightly obsessed with it. More like majorly obsessed! To the point of struggling to know how I will cope without it come May of this year. I guess I'll just have to re-watch it time after time in a dimly lit room sitting in a tear stained housecoat sipping coffee from a caffeine stained mug. Oh the depression that may ensue.

Watching the episode that was rather Kweon-centric it occured to me that of all the Asian food I love, I've not had any decent Korean. My First foray into Korean was in the American Midwest. With most things in the Midwest, unless it's down-home BBQ, it's not going to be a mega success even if it is Korean BBQ.

I had a mooch around on the Internet to see what was on offer in London in the way of Korean cuisine. The search led to several sites that had such horrendous music playing I quickly turned to expert advice rather than doing my own research. After a quick querie on twitter I asked my favourite restaurant obsessive she suggested two places. Purely out of location I picked Kobe.

When you work a crazy job that makes you work six days a week, the perfect Sunday at the end of it, is all you look forward to. I have one of those jobs, so Sunday is really my day! My perfect Sunday requires a few things; waking up from at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep,  a sun-filled rain free day, spending time in the kitchen, copious amounts of good food, something decent to watch on the TV and spending time with the bear. That is my perfect Sunday!

The word on the street (read Twitter) that Hawksmoor was going to launch a weekend service (being in The City they guessed the custom was not there on a weekend). This sent my tongue a wagging! I have to admit that I was a Hawksmoor virgin. Not for a lack of trying, but 90% of my big restaurant outings happen on a Sunday. Until now I could not pop my proverbial carnivore cherry. With all the buzz around Twitter, about how MEGA the new brunch was I could not wait to try it myself.

If you had a chance to eat one meal in the UK what would it be? What defines the quintessential British meal?

When Ferran Adria came to London a year ago he was ushered to the traditional pie and mash joint Manzies. Adria eluded at his talk to launch 'A Day At El Bulli' that the he loved pie and mash because it was good simple honest food.

A year later I thought that I'd hop over to Manzies and try their pie and mash. I put a question out on Twitter asking what was the best London Pie And Mash spot noting that I remember Ferran Adria went to Menzies. I got allot of great recommendations back, but a reply from ChrisPople really got me thinking. Chris said that he did not understand why Adria was not taken to Tayyabs. There it was, We needed to lunch at Tayyabs, ditch the Pie N' Mash it was time for a Pakistani feast!

Walking down the rather quite unassuming side street at 2:30 in the afternoon we came upon the blue neon festooned restaurant. The Bear gasped at the sheer volume of people inside. Walking through the door plastered with Harden's this, Zagat that and Time out that stickers it was clear that this place will live up to all the hype that surrounds it. there I was stuck by it, this is restaurant is a British melting pot.

On the 9th of November there was much cause for rejoicing in the land. London’s best Mexican restaurant Wahaca opened another branch of their muy successful Mexican Canteen in Canary Wharf. Why the jubilation? Well if you have not been to Wahaca you simple have not lived!

Wahaca is the brainchild of Thomasina Miers, whom I had the pleasure to compete with in the first series of Masterchef. Tommi caught the Mexican bug on a gastronomic adventure in Mexico. She made it her mission to start the Mexican revolution in the UK! For that, I thank you Tommi. Every since I washed up on the shores from the use in 1999 I've longed for some decent Mexican grub. Finally with Wahaca my craving is appeased!

Wahaca is all about bringing honest Mexican cuisine to the masses in bright and lively surroundings. Tommi is passionate about sourcing sustainable and authentic locally made ingredients to create dishes that are both visually exciting and complex in flavour.

What the heck is Katzenjammer?

I found the place by accident one day while merrily strolling down Southwark St. Their bold black and white posters, which could have easily mistaken for posters for a Hard-Fi tour, caught my eye. In the graphical simplicity of the perfectly formatted helvetica type were the simple proclamations of Bierrs, Schnapps, Sausages and Mains. Simple, straightforward and almost pleasantly abrupt.

My reasearch on this spot on the internet was unfruitful, I diid however find the following definition for Katzenjammer:
1. A loud, discordant noise. 2. A hangover. 3. A state of depression or bewilderment.

How can a restaurant that is associated with those three things be any good?

My daily ritual of gazing at the menu while passing lasted just shy of a week before I bolted through the doors. I was salivating with anticipation as I ventured down the stairs to the vaulted brick catacombs of London's newest Bavarian Bierrkeller & Restaurant.

I have had a secret love affair with Busaba Eathai ever since it opened its doors in 1999. How could anyone not do the same? The interiors, ah the interiors whisk you away to a dimly lit sexed up Kuti floating over water. Oh, The light smell of incense that will lull you into a gastro-meditative trance. Oh and there is the food!

So what has happened in the last 10 years? To be honest I spend very little time in Central London so impromptu dining is few and far between. Dining in Central London is usually at more of a 'Destination' restaurant. I would see Busaba as a casual walk in restaurant, so I somewhat repressed my hidden love affair with Busaba. But when opportunities arise, you strike! Walking down Wardor Street on a September evening, I suggested ‘Hey Lets get a bite at Busaba!’ Was I disappointed?
